Esta semana, al leer la nueva ocurrencia antiinmigración de David Cameron ("La Policía británica podrá confiscar los sueldos de los inmigrantes ilegales") se me vinieron a la cabeza unas palabras de la letra de la canción Reggae Fi Peach del poeta dub Linton Kwesi Johnson, en las que dice:
Is England becoming a fascist state?
The answer lies at your own gate,
And in the answer lies your fate.
¿Se está convirtiendo Inglaterra en un estado fascista?
La respuesta está en tu puerta
y en la respuesta está tu destino.
No parece que la canción (que trata de la muerte del profesor neozelandés Blair Peach a manos de la policía en una manifestación antirracista en 1979), quede tan lejana en el tiempo, pese a que se escribió hace 35 años.
Por cierto, el tema está incluido en el disco Bass Culture, en el que se inspiró Lloyd Bradley para el título de su libro Bass Culture: la historia del reggae.
